Products and Processing Pillar (Lead Desmulliez and Ocone) – The Products & Processes pillar brings internationally leading expertise in engineering processes and product design including understanding the product lifecycle of plastics (production, use, end of life, disposal) and sensor platforms and systems that could be exploited for better monitoring and recovery of plastic materials, and enhanced recyclability of the discarded plastics. Experts within this Pillar have a strong track-record of delivering proof-of-principle demonstrators applying laboratory concepts to the real world applications. Such demonstrators include: (i) electromagnetic radiation-based sensors capable of detecting microplastic particles in water. (ii) novel filtering technologies for micro-ontaminants, (iii) the development of user defined RF antennas written directly onto plastics for detection of plastic bags.
